There’s a brand new way to buy your books online and support independent bookstores in the process—Bookshop.org! Indie bookstores are the backbone of the book world, but they’ve long been fighting an uphill battle against Amazon and large corporate chains. Now, with the coronavirus pandemic slowing sales, indie bookstores need our support more than ever. Bookshop.org has recently emerged as the ethical alternative to Amazon.
All books purchased on Bookshop.org help out independent bookstores in some way. In fact, in the few weeks that it’s been up, the site has already raised over $1 million for bookstores! A fraction of the proceeds bought directly through Bookshop.org are put into an earnings pool and distributed to stores. If you want to support a particular bookshop or neighborhood, you can go to the site’s store locator map and search by location. Full profits from books bought through a store’s page will go to that store. But bookstores aren’t the only ones that can have affiliate shops on Bookshop.org—bloggers can, too!
Go to Bookshop.org/shop/TheGothicLibrary to shop from The Gothic Library’s affiliate page. Here you can browse through different “shelves” for recommendations. I’ve got a shelf featuring every book I’ve reviewed for the site, a shelf for my absolute favorites, as well as shelves for nonfiction, anthologies, and more.
